🐦❄️ Feeding Our Feathered Friends in Nursery!🐦❄️
Our Nursery children have been busy exploring their Winter topic by creating their very own bird feeders using pipe cleaners and cereal. This fun and hands-on activity gave the children a wonderful opportunity to learn about how animals need extra help to find food during the colder months.
As they threaded the cereal onto the pipe cleaners, the children developed important fine motor skills, strengthening their fingers and improving hand-eye coordination. They also practised concentration, patience and problem-solving as they worked carefully to create their feeders.
We talked together about birds and asked the children if they knew the names of any birds they might see in their gardens or at nursery. This encouraged them to share their ideas, use new words and build their confidence in talking about the world around them.
Once finished, we went outside and hung the bird feeders on the trees, giving the children a real sense of purpose and excitement as they helped to care for the birds in our nursery environment. This linked closely to our wellbeing and caring for others theme.
We are looking forward to watching which birds come to visit our feeders over the coming weeks!
