Catholic Schools Week

23rd Jan 2026

This week the school community celebrated Catholic Schools Week.

This is a very special week for all Catholic schools and it provides opportunities for us to discuss our faith.

The Theme for this week is "Ordinary Lives, Called to Holiness." A theme inspired by Pope Francis.

“Holiness does not mean performing extraordinary things, but doing ordinary things with love and faith.”

— Pope Francis on Blessed Carlo Acutis

Across the school we discussed what this theme meant for us. Some year groups completed artwork, some wrote poems and some had class discussions. All taking time out to think about our Faith.

We were also invited to take part in Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Patrick and Saint Coleman.

One child from each class from p4-p7 attended, this was a wonderful opportunity for us. We joined with pupils from schools across the Diocese. We listened to Archbishop Eamon Martin talk about the importance of Faith in our lives. We learned about St Carlo Acutis and his life. We reflected on our own daily blessings.

In P7 we discussed who we would talk to if we wanted to discuss our faith, where would we find support? Family was the most popular answer closely followed by school. We also talked about how faith comes in the little things, the daily prayer and the "God Bless" from our grandparents.

It is important to take the time to reflect on these lessons. It is the little things we do that bring love and light to not only our lives but the lives of those around us.

God Bless
