Mrs Kearney's pupils are thoroughly enjoying the primary 6 class novel, 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne. This heart warming and thought-provoking story has captured their hearts and minds.
Before beginning the novel in September, the pupils worked in groups to predict what they thought this book was about using only the front cover. As we read on in the novel, the pupils have explored the key features of an informal letter. They took on the role of 'Bruno', writing a letter to his friends back home in Berlin. In pairs, they noted their ideas in a 'box-it-up' planner and used this to guide them as they wrote their first draft. The boys and girls have now completed the final drafts of their informal letters and are beginning to learn the features of formal letter writing.
