P7K World Book Day, becoming playwrites and Learning about Newry!
10th Mar 2026
We have had a week of magical adventures!
First stop- World Book Day, some of our class opted to dress up for world book day with some wonderful and magical outfits! For those of us who were a little shy, we opted to go with the theme "The Day the Crayons Quit" and chose to wear our favourite colours.
Next we have been reading "Under the Hawthorn Tree" for this we needed to travel back in time, we worked together to write a playscript for a short news report on the Famine in Ireland. The conversations were rivetting and I can't wait to watch the children act out their scene next week!
Our third adventure took us to Newry Business Centre where we had a great whistlestop tour of Newry, through the years. Dr Conor Patterson showed us some clips of Newry over the past 100 years. We saw some clips of wonderful times and some challenging times, all an important part of our history. Dr Patterson then showed us some of the wonderful local businesses and how they were set up. He talked to us about the future and how one day, we could be in the video clips of successful local businesses. To top it off we all had a nice treat and some juice.
We were so lucky to have this opportunity and it certainly gave us some food for thought.
