Sustrans Ditch the Dark Day

24th Feb 2024
22nd Feb 2024 The Primary 5 children were extra bright and colourful for Ditch the Dark Day that was organised with Sustrans Sustainable Travel programme.
The morning started with Dave, our Active School Travel officer, giving a very powerful assembly about the importance of active travel for keeping our mind and body healthy and to protect the environment. He also shared the safety message that while travelling, we need to Be Bright! Be Seen!
After the assembly, Dave visited each of the Primary 5 classes to do some science experiments. These experiments were to test which materials and items are better to wear during the day and at night to be seen by other road users. The bright high-visibility vests proved to be most effective in both experiments.
This was an excellent start to our focus on Sustainable Travel. As we know, we can choose to be more active every day while travelling to school. We will be taking part in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel Challenge running from Monday 11th March to Friday 22nd March. The Eco-council will be sharing more news about this soon, so stay tuned.
Well done to everyone who was able to be more active on their journey to school and wore their brightly coloured accessories!
